Robotization in the Cumpana factory with Kawasaki Robotics robots

5 April, 2024 | Natalia Bielańska

Robotization at the bottled water company Cumpana has helped to improve process efficiency and address staff availability issues. See how the application looks in the video below:

Pioneers in the local market in the delivery of bottled spring water and watercooler systems

A company with 100% Romanian capital, Cumpana was founded in 1993 out of the desire to bring the freshness of spring water closer to the people.

Today, the company positions itself as a reliable supplier for any type of business and is present daily not only in companies but also on the tables of home consumers, in schools, institutions and shopping centers.

The long-term partnerships built with their customers, as well as the vast experience of the management team, are the basic pillars of the success that Cumpana enjoys today. It translates into having a market share of approximately 30% and is the second largest player on the Romanian profile market.

With a know-how of over 25 years, Cumpana products and services are continuously improving by aligning with the most demanding quality requirements and also adhering to the latest market trends.

Implementation of Kawasaki Robotics ZX200S Robot

Cumpana has decided to develop robotization in its plant. The process of handling bottles is an activity which requires great physical effort. Due to this fact  the company has difficulties in finding suitable employees to work in this area. The solution was to use the Kawasaki Robotics ZX200S robot.

The Kawasaki Robotics ZX200S features a wide motion range and is suitable for a variety of applications, from spot welding to material handling. With a load capacity of up to 200 kg, it is able to move heavy weights up to a range of 2651 mm.

Kawasaki Robotics ZX200S during handling application

The Kawasaki Robotics ZX200S handling robot moves four bottles weighing 19.4 kg up to 20 kg each into position in the conveyor magazine.

Using vacuum suction cups, the bottles are gently and safely transferred to the correct location. Sensors inform the robot controller about the bottles waiting to be transferred.

The E02 controller is compact, lightweight and has very small dimensions. It consists of two modules – the transformer unit, which regulates the voltage, and the logic with servomotor controllers for the robot axes.

The gripper used in this application is dual-function – it can both load bottles onto the conveyor magazine and pick workpieces from any position on the conveyor. A valve terminal is mounted on the gripper, which communicates with the controller via a communication protocol. Thanks to this, the gripper requires less wiring because the signal is sent directly from the valve terminal.

Benefits of using Kawasaki Robotics robot

By using the Kawasaki Robotics robot, the entire process is carried out much more efficiently. This can be seen in particular in the parts that are transported.

The handling of the bottles is made more delicate, controlled and constant, thus decreasing the percentage of destruction of the bottles.

Through the use of the robot, overall production costs have also been reduced as handling times are shorter.

“The company IMSAT, official distributor of Kawasaki Robotics in Romania, has provided us with the necessary technical support and help in maintaining the line. They also offer maintenance services, parts replacement and the necessary technical expertise.”– Ms. Ema Danila, Director at Cumpana 1993 SRL
